Mark Stephens

Mark Stephens
Chief Executive Officer

Co-founder of Blackstar Capital Partners and is responsible for fund advisory, deal structuring and additionally is a board member of LFP I SICAV SIF S.A. Mr Stephens has 16 years’ experience in the financial industry executing trades in multiple asset classes, hedging asset portfolios and originating structured solutions for proprietary positions with Nomura Asset Management, Vantage Capital Markets and Melli Bank. Mark entered the commodity and commodity trade finance markets in 2007 initially in a financing, structuring and origination capacity. Mr Stephens holds a Bachelor of Commerce, majoring in Economics from the University of Otago, New Zealand.

Daniel McGrath

Daniel McGrath
Chief Operating Officer

Co-founder of Blackstar Capital Partners and is responsible for Deal origination and Structuring. Mr McGrath has extensive experience as a solicitor for Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer LLP and Shearman & Sterling LLP, representing international banks, private equity firms and global corporations in relation to energy and infrastructure projects. Mr McGrath was also Senior Legal Counsel for Challenger Financial Services Group Ltd advising on acquisitions and divestments for the Challenger Infrastructure Fund and on the establishment of the Challenger/Mitsui Emerging Markets Infrastructure Fund. Mr McGrath holds a BA/LLB from Queensland University of Technology and a Master of Arts from Cambridge University.

Before joining Blackstar Capital, Mark enjoyed an eight-year career with ICAP Energy, one of the world’s biggest energy inter-dealer broking houses. Within this fast moving commodities market, Mark was an integral member of the hugely successful ICAP Oils team. This team built significant relationships and provided trading liquidity for all of the Oil Majors, the Wall Street Refiners, the Major Trading Houses, Banks and many more financial institutions. The market experience Mark gained in his time with ICAP Energy will prove invaluable as Blackstar looks to develop its deal flow and AUM.

Previous to his career at ICAP Mark played professional Rugby for London Wasps and Castres Olympique in France. In his career at Wasps he was part of a team that won every major domestic and European trophy available.

Mark was educated in the UK and has a BA in History from Bristol University and an MA in Law from Cambridge University.

Frances Walsh

Frances Walsh
Head of Trade Finance, Blackstar Trade Finance Limited

Frances is a highly experienced structured trade financier with comprehensive knowledge of and extensive practical experience in providing finance within the international trade sector. Frances’ expertise encompasses traditional trade finance, factoring and forfaiting in the export markets. This experience is complemented by a strong legal background and 25 years’ exposure to the international banking and finance markets, having held senior positions with UK-based firms London Forfeiting Company, BCI Soditic Trade Finance Company, Fairfax Gerrard and Trade Finance Partners Limited, latterly as Structured Finance Director.

Andy Sweeney

Andy Sweeney
Head of Capital Markets

Andy has 17 years of experience in Capital Markets, having spent time in bond syndication at Citigroup, Royal Bank of Canada and Mizuho. After that, he spent three years in alternative finance, helping to establish one peer-to-peer lender whilst more latterly advising others on their approach to market.

With a keen eye for structuring opportunities, Andy’s clients have included governments, banks and corporates around the world as a banker. The last 18 months has been focussed upon trade finance and receivable opportunities, with a focus upon exploiting sectors where risk is mis-priced in the investor’s favour.

Sudeb Sarbadhikary

Sudeb Sarbadhikary
Head, MENA Region

Sudeb Sarbadhikary has more than 20 years of work experience in the Financial Services and Banking Industry. Having worked for a wide range of leading finance organisations, including HSBC, ABN Amro Bank & WestLB. His work has primarily been concentrated in the emerging markets of India and the Middle East.

From 2010 to 2014 Sudeb he was responsible for successfully establishing a startup and growing a Non-Banking Finance Company in India, a joint-venture with Punjab National Bank (one of the largest public sector banks in the country). As CEO of India Factoring and Finance Solutions Pvt. Ltd. (IFFL), he was responsible for establishing the company, laying down basic procedures and subsequently developing the business. He was instrumental in building an asset portfolio of approximately INR 10bn spread over 300 clients. The company was to prove profitable from its first full year of operation and was to be backed with a credit rating of ‘A1’ by ICRA on a standalone basis.
