Mark Stephens

As CEO/Founder of Blackstar Capital Group, Mark is responsible for the overall management and strategy of the business and leads the Blackstar Capital Europe team based in London. Mark has over 20 years’ experience in the financial services industry, having occupied dealing and portfolio management positions across multiple asset classes. During the financial crisis and the significant industry changes that followed, Mark moved his focus to the working capital space having identified huge non-bank opportunities in this sector. This was the genesis of Blackstar Capital.
Mark holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Economics) from the University of Otago, New Zealand, numerous professional qualifications and is regulated as a CF1 and CF30 by the FCA in the UK.

Laurie Pinto

Laurie pinto has had a long and distinguished career in banking with cross border investment and structuring being his leading edge. He starting in the banking industry in the early 80s and has worked in a variety of senior roles. More recently he has been involved with building and then selling his interest in his investment business to Everbright SHK. Laurie’s current focus is on structuring and the optimisation of capital in transactions so as to create value where he sees undervalued and misunderstood assets.

Andy Sweeney

Head of Capital Markets

Andy has 17 years of experience in Capital Markets, having spent time in bond syndication at Citigroup, Royal Bank of Canada and Mizuho. In those roles, he advised banks, corporates and governments on raising money in bond markets. After that, he spent three years in alternative finance, helping to establish one peer-to-peer lender whilst more latterly advising others on their approach to market. The last 18 months has been focused upon trade finance and receivable opportunities, with a focus upon exploiting sectors where risk is mispriced. Andy holds an MA in Law from the University of Cambridge.

Sudeb Sarbadhikary

Head of MENA, Blackstar

Sudeb has more than 20 years of work experience in the Financial Services and Banking Industry. Having worked for a wide range of leading finance organisations, including HSBC, ABN Amro Bank & WestLB. His work has primarily been concentrated in the emerging markets of India and the Middle East. From 2010 to 2014 Sudeb he was responsible for successfully establishing a startup and growing a Non-Banking Finance Company in India, a joint-venture with Punjab National Bank (one of the largest public sector banks in the country). As CEO of India Factoring and Finance Solutions Pvt. Ltd. (IFFL), he was responsible for establishing the company, laying down basic procedures and subsequently developing the business. He was instrumental in building an asset portfolio of approximately INR 10bn spread over 300 clients. The company was to prove profitable from its first full year of operation and was to be backed with a credit rating of ‘A1’ by ICRA on a standalone basis.

Frances Walsh

Head of Trade Finance

Frances is a highly experienced structured trade financier with comprehensive knowledge of and extensive practical experience in providing finance within the international trade sector. Frances’ expertise encompasses traditional trade finance, factoring and forfaiting in the export markets. This experience is complemented by a strong legal background and 25 years’ exposure to the international banking and finance markets, having held senior positions with UK-based firms London Forfeiting Company, BCI Soditic Trade Finance Company, Fairfax Gerrard and Trade Finance Partners Limited, latterly as Structured Finance Director.

Nick Warshaw

Finance

Nick is responsible for the finance and reporting functions of the business. Nick is a widely travelled finance professional with over 40 years experience in his field. Nick has worked in various roles for major organisations such as Price Waterhouse, American Express and Norton Industries. Nick was also a Senior Director of an international oil trader with offices in Geneva, Amsterdam and Singapore; a company with annual turnover in excess of $6bn. Nick was responsible for the reporting and tax function and had the sole responsibility of winding the group from 2008. Nick holds a B.Sc. in Economics from the University of London and an MBA from City University London and holds an international Oil Trading-Princeton Oxford Certificate. He is also used to working in French, German and Dutch.
